Another superb coffee table book from Thames and Hudson
"Islamic Art and Patronage - Treasures from Kuwait" full catalogue (1990) of the exhibition which came to Sydney and other places. Brilliant.
These beautifully produced (French) books accompanied exhibitions at L'Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris in 2001-02 and 2006 and are still to be found either at their bookshop or on the web. Here is a link to a review of the science exhibition.

Sadly, one Islamic book you will not be able to get is al-Jazari's 1315 work "Kitab fi ma'rifat al-hiyal al-handasiyya" "The Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices" (aka "Automata"). Pages from extant copies are all over the place ... on the left is a water clock, and on the right an elephant clock (this one in the Metropolitan Museum, New York). A project to produce a facsimile of collected pages sadly appears to have faltered.
