Inside the Orvieto Duomo

This is what the Duomo was built for - to house the reliquary containing the Corporal of the Miracle of Bolsena.  The reliquary is 1.4M high, and was made by the Sienese goldsmith Ugolino di Vieri in the late 1330s.  It is paraded through town in a great medieval procession on Corpus Domini Sunday each year.

Right:  This breath taking Pieta was sculptured from a single block of marble by Ippolito Scalza between 1570 - 80
