This work (one of a board of portraits now in the Louvre) is described in several books as a posthumous portrait of Giotto by Paolo Ucello (1397 - 1475 (78)). However, it was pretty certainly not painted by Uccello, nor was it the face of Giotto even though a later paint brush had labelled it thus! It is in fact thought to be the face of mathematician Antonio Manetti, who wrote Brunelleschi's biography and was a friend of Uccello, who in turn was a perspective freak .... find out more ..... |
