The Necropoli della Banditaccia, near Cerveteri, contains Etruscan tumuli and tombs from the 500s and 600s BC. The Etruscans buried their dead (or those who could afford it anyway) in "houses" in look alike towns or necropoli, and left with them all that they required to have a great time wherever they had gone to. Cerveteri (then called Caere) was a flourishing Etruscan centre with a matching necropolis. The area presently excavated and open to the public is only a part of the full burial area. The artefacts uncovered during excavations are mainly in the Augusto Castellani collection in Villa Giulia in Rome.

Gregory examines the real estate potential of a row of terrace tombs. The site is pervaded by a special sense of peace and quietness (and a lack of tourists, but it's not just that!)
