The Basilica of San Giovanni Evangilista was built in 425 on the orders of Galla Placida, baroqued and rebaroqued in the 15 to 17 hundreds, unbaroqued in 1920 and destroyed in August 1944 by a badly "aimed" US bomb.  It has since been rebuilt, and on the walls are rescued abstract and narrative mosaics, some of which depict the events of the 4th Crusade and its Sack of Constantinople in 1204.  This is the only known pictorial narrative of this event.

Constantinople surrenders to and is sacked by a diverted 4th Crusade in 1204
