The story of the creation in the upper panels of the north rose - the oldest of the Cathedral's rose windows.

The arch of the north transept rose has a set of voussure sculptures which seem to include Adam and Eve scenes (also the subject some of the stained glass panels) and monthly activities.  They don't look very big from the ground, but in reality are huge - some of the original 1235 sculptures can be seen in the Palais du Tau.

At ground level, there are three north doorways, two of which have tympanum and archivolt ensembles.

A high five over a barrel of wine (above) precedes Denis' descent to the executioners (below right) and incense treatment for his severed head (left) before he carries it off.

Lower, St-Denis brings a couple of serious young friends and his head to the central north portal.

Sculptor's revenge - from the right - a king, a bishop, an abbot and two well heeled ladies await, in chains, their turn to enter the cauldron of hell.

Holding up an arch for hundreds of years can lead to a sore neck and shoulders
