This is a reconstruction of the Shrine of Saint Alban (England's "first martyr"). The shrine would have been surrounded by stacks of offerings brought by pilgrims over the centuries. Of more interest is the wooden structure in the background because this is a unique survivor and original. It is the elevated wooden balcony from which the duty monk kept watch to make sure nothing got nicked.
